Video Art: "In Motion"

Video Art: Reflection  "In Motion"     In Motion aims to showcase my point of view of how I experience life. I wanted to show casual intimacy and vulnerability with the people I hold dear to my heart. Above all of that, I personally show vulnerability by letting viewers see through the window into my life, with ambiguous storylines about other people and images that I see as "pretty". My objective is to capture sincerity in this film, and the home-video style adds a personal touch.      In Motion carries the viewer through 3 parts, of me, with different people throughout every part. I capture transitions between every part with a picture of motion, in which represents a notion that life endlessly moves, moving you into spontaneous experiences in a day.     If I had to change anything with my film, visual effects would be less jarring and used throughout the video. Now that I am more comfortable with a camera, I would focus more energy on the cinem...

Video Art (2/2)

Just finding Inspiration...... I was rewatching some of the video art examples David presented to the class to find my footing for this project. I was looking at Francis Alys's video, Sometimes Making Something Leads to Nothing (1997),  and Pipilotti Rist's, Ever is Over All (installation) , 1997.  I found that Alys's video, although bleak in content, I liked the rawness of the film and thought it added to the message--making futility a realistic struggle and often a common one, and not something that is glorified. The decision to make an amateurish video rather than a put-together one is an interesting concept that I may explore.  Rist's film, I thought was eerily silly. The pacing was slow and created a tense feeling, followed by the crashing of the car windows, made a chilling example of video art. The blue filter adds an almost ethereal or otherworldly aspect to the piece, complimented with the exotic music. I assume the woman has past a tipping point in her sani...

Video Art (1/2)

Here are the YouTube links to the four videos that showcase my exploration with these fundamentals! Because I did not have a camera rented at the time, these videos were shot with my phone.  1.  Framing -  Here, I am on a walk around campus, taking shots of the scenery. The University's scenic views of the coulees and its architectural elements worked in my favour to film versatile images. Primarily focusing on the rule of thirds composition, golden ratios, and scale, I aimed to capture a satisfying video that encompasses my prior knowledge on composition. 2.  Colour - I wanted to quickly explore colour. Rather than finding ways that colours interact with each other, I wanted to see how colour would interact with the camera itself. I captured the scenes around me in the Student Union cafeteria and filmed where I thought color was nice and vivid. My phone camera ended up muting the vibrancy of a color due to poor lighting, at least is my theory. I plan on exploring co...

The Foley Project: Creating Sounds

These videos are of when my group and I decided to get together for the second time to rehearse the foley for the video! Thanks to my group members' active cooperation, I think we've created successful foley for the project. (I brought the chicken 😉) https://youtu.be/2HyQJWbgTzs https://youtu.be/zNv2L-g_dEs

The Foley Project: Videos

In this project, my group, consisting of Kennedy, Christina, Leigh, and me, compiled snippets of our lives into one large video, stitched together and edited by Kennedy. Check out my colleague's blogs for their videos!
